All models of the IWB holsters feature a metal reinforced mouth (with the
exception of model WS-1). This keeps the holster from collapsing once the weapon is withdrawn, resulting in an effortless one handed re-holster.
Smooth side out or
rough side out? The single biggest concern of those considering purchasing an IWB holster for the first time is uncertainty on whether or not it will be comfortable. Holsters with a smooth side out construction generally tend to be more comfortable than their rough side out counterparts.
The rough side out holster as conceptualized by the late Bruce Nelson was to allow the leather to adhere to clothing for better position stability. His Summer Special as he produced it came with a narrow single loop, and the rough side out finish helped to anchor everything in place. I have personally found that as long as a proper holster loop to belt width relationship is adhered to, then position stability will be assured regardless of finish. The choice is yours.
