Tallahassee's Rasmussen Takes Regional Shooting Title

Sedro-Woolley, WA — John Rasmussen of Tallahassee narrowly edged out Bill Munier to capture the Single Stack Division pistol title at the 2008 United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) Area 6 Regional Championships.

Rasmussen topped all Single Stack 1911 pistol shooters on just three of the 12 stages but was able to finish in the top three on all but four stages. Munier also posted three top stage finishes but ran into trouble on the eighth stage where he finished 15th, securing his second place match finish. Rounding out the top five were Kevin Carroll in third, Lee Pettross in fourth and Gary Stevens, the USPSA Area 5 Director, in fifth place.

"For Single Stack shooters the Area 6 match is the perfect tune up for the USPSA Single Stack Nationals this coming weekend. The competition is always fierce in this division and John put in a solid performance through all 12 stages to come out on top," said Charles Bond, USPSA's Area 6 Director.

The USPSA Area 6 Championships were held at the South River Gun Club in Covington, Georgia April 18-20. A total of 335 top shooters competed in USPSA's Open, Limited, Limited-10, Production, Revolver and Single Stack divisions. The USPSA Area 6 region includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
