1911 Society Donates $2,500 For USPSA Juniors Effort
Sedro-Woolley, WA — The United States Practical Shooting Association's (USPSA) junior shooter program got a big boost this weekend from the 1911 Society when Richard Heinie and Russell Cluver presented the organization with a check for $2,500. The funds will be used to promote greater participation by juniors in the Single Stack Division.
"USPSA would like to thank the 1911 Society for their generous support. Our sport was founded on competition with the 1911. With the growth in the Single Stack Division we have come full circle and it is only fitting that the future of 1911 competition is built on the support from these two great shooters," said Dave Thomas, USPSA Executive Director.
The 1911 Society's Single Stack Classic match, now known as the USPSA Single Stack Nationals, was established in 1994 by pistolsmith Richard Heinie, and then USPSA Illinois Section Coordinator, Russell Cluver to promote the 1911 pistol in competition.
Over the years the match has grown in popularity. In 2006 USPSA established a provisional division known as Single Stack for the 1911 pistol. The success of the division led to permanent status and its own national championship title.
