Leatham Wins Third Straight Single Stack Nationals Title
Sedro-Woolley, WA — Robbie Leatham of Mesa, Arizona, captured his third consecutive United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) Single Stack Nationals title this Saturday at the PASA Park range in Barry, Illinois, and it is his 14th straight win of the match that was previously known as the Single Stack Classic.
Leatham dominated the match finishing in the top three on 10 of the 13 stages winning seven of them. Leatham led the field of 275 top shooters through the entire match.
Phil Strader, who finished 12th in 2006 and 9th in 2007 moved up to take second this year finishing just over 34 match points behind Leatham. Taran Butler finished third while Dave Sevigny and Greg Martin finished the match fourth and fifth respectively.
The Single Stack Nationals, which was sponsored by prominent firearms maker Springfield Armory, was established in 1994 as the Single Stack Classic by pistolsmith Richard Heinie, and then USPSA Illinois Section Coordinator, Russell Cluver.
The match was designed specifically for the 1911 model pistol and no other pistol design is permitted in the competition. In 2006 USPSA designated the popular match as a national championship and it has remained the preeminent showcase for the venerable 1911 ever since.
